Family Road Trip!
Posted on 16:34 by Unknown
If I'm a bit absent this week, it's for a fabulous reason. Tomorrow morning, the three of us are hitting the road and making our way to my hometown in Michigan. We'll be staying with my family and won't be home until Labor Day. If you're feeling prayerful, please add us to your prayer list. We've never taken Colin for more than a 3 hour drive, and this one will last at least 12 hours. Wish us luck!!!
With my siblings on my wedding day, circa 2005. Yes, I am the oldest- and the shortest. |
I'm so excited! Even though I call South Carolina home, Michigan will always have a piece of my heart. :)
See ya soon!
And the winner is........

Oh Snap! Wednesday - Curly Hair!
Posted on 06:24 by Unknown
When Colin was first born, I thought "oh, look at all the hair!"
and then, I saw other babies and realized he didn't really have all that much.
Still, it was smooth as silk and I loved stroking his soft little head from day one.
My tiny jaundiced baby doing the dance from Thriller |
As time went on, his hair grew in a little thicker,
and it started to lighten up.
And then there was a new development...
just recently, all the new growth is coming in super curly!
It's so stinkin' cute... now his hair is pretty thin and straight in the front,
and thick and curly in the back.. so much so that it sticks up unless I've just
washed and brushed it. Even then, though, it curls as it's drying.
See the little poof in the back? |
Oh, darling boy... I so love your sweet baby-ness.
Please hang onto that for a while, okay?

Raising a Man
Posted on 07:28 by Unknown
for the Toddle Along Tuesday blog hop today!
So, I've been thinking a lot lately about the kind of person Colin might grow up to be one day. Justin and I talk about this subject quite a bit. Right now, it's so hard to see past the spit-up and poopy diapers and think about the fact that we're in the process of raising a man. It blows my mind that one day, this sweet little booger will grow up and be a man. This is definitely something we don't take lightly. We playfully talk about characteristics we want him to have: he'll be kind and generous, but good with money. He'll have a great job and marry a woman we can be proud to call our daughter-in-law. He will be an awesome dad to his own kids one day. He'll be responsible, courteous and he will love God with all his heart.
But, here's the scary part... there's only so much we can do. Yes, we can interact with him and teach him the things we think are important and surround him with educational toys. However, once he's grown, he'll have to be responsible for himself. All the great parenting in the world can't guarantee that your child will be the type of person you want him to be. To me, that's a scary thought. At 7 months, Colin is already showing some personality. He makes "angry" noises now when he's frustrated about something, and he also loves to pull hair - HARD - and to pinch his poor mommy until she has bruises. Ha! He's still a baby and I know he isn't trying to spite us, but we're already getting a glimpse of the road ahead. Before we know it, we're going to have to start utilizing the "D" word: discipline. Yikes! While I'm not looking forward to that part, it's a necessary evil that comes with being a parent. Sure, we could let him run wild like a crazy wildebeast, but we're thinking long term here. We knew what we were getting into when we saw those two lines on the pregnancy test, and even more so when we saw a tiny penis on an ultrasound screen. Raising a boy isn't going to be easy, but I am loving it already, and I can't wait to see the kind of man Colin will become.
We still have a little while to go before we're there yet, though, so for now I'm just going to enjoy my squishy baby boy. One day he will be a grown man, and probably won't want to snuggle with his momma anymore, so I'm going to take full advantage while I still can.

Going bananas
Posted on 17:55 by Unknown
Can I just say that the Munchkin Fresh Food Feeder is the coolest thing ever invented? Okay, maybe that's an exaggeration.. but seriously, this thing is awesome.
If you've followed me for a while, you know I like to [sometimes] make Colin's baby food myself. [Except for meats.. the idea of pureeing meats weirds me out just a tad]. So anyway, I wanted to give him the chance to try some banana in its natural form, but I was too afraid to give him a chunk for fear of creating a choking hazard. Solution? This nifty little thingie! You just stick a chunk of food in the mesh "pocket" (so far we've tried banana and watermelon), click the plastic part closed, and hand to baby for hours minutes of sticky sweet enjoyment!
Ummm, Mom? Not sure about this yet. |
Hmmm... this is actually pretty good. |
Doop dee doo... don't mind me, just chillin' with some 'nana in my mesh feeder. |
Ooh, puffs! Concentrate.... connncceenntrraatteee... jeez, these are hard to pick up. |
Meh. I think I'll just stick with the banana. |
I think he likes it! I do too, since it buys me a little extra time here and there to tidy up the kitchen, wash bottles, check Facebook - whatever. ;)
By the way... stay tuned for a pretty sweet giveaway, coming soon to a blog near you!!

So can I share some cute photos of my 7 month old* son for a minute?
Yesterday afternoon, we had some special mommy/Colin time in the backyard.
Since he's sitting up so well now, he seemed to enjoy himself.
He sat and watched our dog, Ellie, zoom around the yard.
He studied everything he could see, trying to figure it all out.
Maybe he'll be a photographer one day.
He is SO interested in my camera!

We did some exploring.
"Mom, what's this green stuff? Can I eat it?"

Ahh... late afternoon summer snuggles are the best.
*I didn't do an "official" 7 month post - I've been so crazy busy lately, since I work at a University and all the students and fac/staff members just stampeded the campus! So, in case you missed it, here are Colin's 7 month stats:
Height: 29 3/4 inches
Weight: 22.5 lbs
That's right - my boy is gigantic! And growing every day. :)
