Big changes!
Posted on 08:58 by Unknown
By the way, your eyes do not deceive you. I've redone my blog, since it has become all about my little man, anyway. I'm not going to pretend I have anything interesting to say that isn't baby related. :) I hope you like the changes!
Colin's First Easter
Posted on 07:55 by Unknown
Colin's first Easter was a success, except for the fact that he slept through a pretty decent chunk of it. :) In the morning, we dressed him for church. We had planned for him to wear a suit, but it didn't fit right, and he fussed in it. So, we picked out one of his fancy shirts and a cute pair of pants instead. It worked out well, since Easter Sunday turned out to be a pretty hot day!
Little man hung out in the church nursery while we attended the service. He's been in there before for the majority of the service and has done really well, but this is the first time we dropped him off as soon as we got there. Of course, he was perfect, and everyone raved about him when we went to pick him up.
After church, we went to Mema and Papa's house (Justin's parents; mine are far away in Michigan.) for Easter dinner. We ate our weight in ham, Southern style mac 'n cheese, biscuits, corn on the cob, and several other "fixins." I brought peanut butter cup cookies for dessert, and most of them disappeared pretty quickly. They were delicioso!
We didn't end up getting any family photos because Colin was hungry, tired and fussy at Mema and Papa's, and once he finally finished his bottle and fell asleep, I didn't want to disturb him. I did take a few pictures once we got home, though. So, for your enjoyment, here is my handsome little boy on his first Easter.

Things I'm loving right now: Mom edition (Part III)
Posted on 10:41 by Unknown
I bought a HoMedics Sound Spa Relaxation Sound Machine on Amazon after hearing some good reviews, and Colin seems to love it! We turn it on each night as part of his bedtime routine, and we usually use the "waterfall" sound. It helps block out all the other little noises of the house so my little angel can drift off to sleep. It plugs into the wall instead of just using batteries, so we can run it all night. I love this thing, and Colin seems to love it too! He seems to sleep more soundly now that we have it.
I don't know why I didn't post about the Sony Baby Call Nursery Monitor before - probably because, for the most part, we slept when Colin slept in the beginning, and we were rarely in separate rooms. Now that he's older, though, there are times when we need to grab a shower or do some laundry while he naps, and he also goes to bed before we do most of the time. This monitor gives us peace of mind so we can be sure all is well with the bambino when we have to be in separate rooms. It also has a "voice" setting which blocks out the background noises and only lets you hear baby (or dogs, when they bark at random things.. ugh. Not ideal during naptime!). My only complaint is that you'll occasionally hear some feedback on the monitor when you get your cell phone too close to it, or if it gets close to any other electronic devices. Overall though, I'd definitely recommend it.
Since we seem to have a night time theme going, I have to rave about Johnson's Bedtime bath and lotion. This is another part of Colin's bedtime routine. When he gets a bath, we add the bedtime bath to it, and it creates some nice, frothy bubbles for him to soak in. I love the scent of this stuff, and little man seems to like it, too. He already loved bathtime, but he seems to enjoy it even more with bubbles. Even on the nights he doesn't get a bath, he gets the bedtime lotion rubbed all over his squishy little body. It's fun for both of us. Is there anything sweeter than silky baby skin? I think not. Whether or not these products have anything to do with it, Colin has been sleeping really well lately -- 6-8 hours a night over the past week. It's awesome!
One of my little guy's favorite things to do is to "dance" on his Baby Einstein Baby Neptune Ocean Adventure Gym. He bats at the toys and kicks his legs to the music. When the music stops, so does the dancing. He'll wait for us to turn it back on, and then he'll start moving again. I'm pretty sure the little octopus is Colin's best friend. I swear he smiles at that thing more than he smiles at us! He'll "talk" to it, and every now and then he'll squeal in delight. So, so cute!
Lately I can't get enough of zip-up sleepers. I was struggling to figure out the maze of snaps on Colin's sleepers at night, and when I was tired and there wasn't a lot of light, it was a bit challenging. Problem solved.. these things are so much easier! They're cute, too, and Kohl's has several of them on sale. Yay for cheap (but still well-made) clothing!
And last, but certainly not least, I am loving some SLEEP! My little love bug is falling into a great sleep pattern. He naps well during the day (at least on the weekends - I can't speak for the days he spends with Mema!) and sleeps well at night. Typically he'll sleep from 8:30 or 9 pm to 3 or 3:30 am, wake to eat, and go back to sleep until our alarm goes off at 6. When we don't have to set an alarm, sometimes he'll sleep until 7 or 7:30. Occasionally, he sleeps through the night. There have been two nights in the past week when he slept EIGHT hours straight. Praise the Lord for a good night's sleep!
And now for a gratuitous dose of cuteness.. my little monkey doing what he does best: being adorable! His latest trick is that he's getting control of his tongue. Can you tell he loves his dog, Ellie? She loves him, too; we call her our Nanny Dog.

3 Months!
Posted on 09:39 by Unknown
My son is three months old.
I am in shock!
How on earth did three months go by already?
It's just not fair.
I want my teeny tiny newborn back. Sort of.
I do love that Colin is getting more playful these days, though.
He has the best smile ever!
Here is my sweet boy on his 3 month birthday.
Yes, his onesie says "winning."
Thanks for that, Uncle Tim and Aunt Shannon!
My little man is now 25 and one eighth inches long,
and over 14 pounds. He is most definitely winning!

Back at work.
Posted on 13:18 by Unknown
Today is my eighth day back at work. It's very strange to be here after ten weeks of baby bliss at home. I do miss Colin very much, but I think I'm starting to get used to the idea of being a full time employee again during the day. I wouldn't go so far as to say I'm enjoying it, but I am definitely getting back into the groove of a routine.
I think my least favorite part of being a working mom so far is that I have so little time with my boys. By the time I get home, we have about 3 hours to feed, change and interact with Colin, feed ourselves, take care of the dogs, and get ourselves showered and organized so we don't look like hot messes at work the next day. By the time all that is done, we start Colin's bedtime routine and lay him down for the night. He is still getting up once a night to eat, usually around 3 am, so I try to go to bed as early as possible so as not to be a zombie when we get up at 6 to start the day.
I suppose there are benefits to working (like the paycheck.. ha!), but I'd rather be with my son at home if that were possible. Since it isn't an option for us, though, I try to make the best of our situation and look for the silver lining. Like, during maternity leave, I would often realize that it had been days since I stepped outside the house. Now, I get out often, and have frequent conversations with other adults. Another bonus is that I'm not eating myself silly now that I'm in a structured environment, so hopefully I will finally have a fighting chance at losing the extra weight I've been carrying around!
Only 12 minutes until I get to go home... not that I'm counting.
